   DESCRIPTION

Escudo Rojo was vinified for the first time in 1999 and found quick and notable success, prompting its makers to construct a modern new bodega in Valle de Maipo. The 2003 vintage was the first to be produced there. In 2014, an entire range of elegant varietal wines from the finest valleys of the Valle Central were created to support the flagship blend: the Escudo range features classic French varieties — Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc — sensibly blended with Carmenère, a fantastic Chile native. The entire collection is marked with ripe fruit and Mediterranean finesse, a palate with both expression and concentration, and the unmistakable body and complexity typical to its Chilean origins.  Yet the calling card for the Rothschild's work in Chile remains its Escudo Rojo. An elegant varietal blend that perfectly weds centuries of French savoir-faire with a distinct Chilean character. The Escudo Rojo Blend draws strongly on the ability of classic French varieties to thrive in the ideal Chilean conditions. To best express the varietal typicity of each grape, the Cabernet, Carménère and Syrah are initially vinified separately. The ratio of varieties within the blend shifts from vintage to vintage to nurture wines of the greatest intensity and quality.  Following the blending, a portion of the wines undergo 12 months of barrel-aging to ensure the final polish.  The result is a beautiful, balanced red wine that weds the indomitable  essence of Chile with the classic Bordeaux elegance and finesse.

 TASTING NOTES

Intense ruby-red color with brilliant purple highlights. A very delicate, generous nose rich in aromas of forest fruits such as cherry, blueberry, blackcurrant and cranberry, mingled with spicy notes of black pepper and rosemary, as well as subtle aromas of cedar imparted by oak ageing. Starts off very elegant and subtle, with incredible richness on the mid-palate, along with good structure and body, and well-balanced acidity. The texture is delicate and velvety. Reveals a long, well-balanced finished marked by aromas of red berries and a return to notes of black pepper. A wine characterized by elegance and finesse with excellent ageing potential. Pair with pan fried duck breast with black tea and figs or fillet of beef with pan fried foie gras, cranberries and mushrooms.
